Guys, please don’t take this the wrong way, but chances are, your online dating profile isn’t helping you put your best virtual foot forward. I know this because I recently dipped a toe into the intimidating, tempest-tossed waters of cyber romance. I also know that men don’t like to ask for directions. However, I’m hoping that viewing your online profile through a woman’s eyes will prove useful. And I assure you, my purpose here is to support and inspire, not attack. So, as a public service, I’ve put together some online dating profile do’s and don’ts, based on what I’ve seen first-hand. The good news is that once identified, even the most problematic online profile issues can be easily fixed–if you’re willing to expend just a bit more thought and effort. I promise: you can create the kind of irresistible profile that will lead to your ultimate goal: canceling your subscription because you’ve met the woman of your dreams. Don’t post a photo of yourself with your arm around a woman. OK, maybe it’s your sister or your cousin; it doesn’t matter.

After my first date in a year ended in disaster, I spoke to other fortysomething women — and a psychologist — to learn what they could teach me about running the gauntlet of romance. L ast week, I pushed myself to go on the first date I have had in a year. In this case, it flung back a guy who lied on his dating profile about his age, used a photo that looked 15 years out of date and told me a bizarre story about how he had done time on a chicken farm because the prisons in his native country were too full — all, and this was the really confusing bit, for a crime he did not commit.
But women in their 40s are likely to have run the gauntlet of hope, heart-sinks and uncertainty that are part of the dating trajectory, from traditional meet-ups to the rise of the planet of the apps. My process of natural deselection is trawling hundreds of profiles that pass in a blur of torso selfies, confusing group photos and grinning men in their 50s holding out large fish this choice of profile picture is one of the many mysteries of online dating.

A reddit user named OKCThrowaway decided to prove just how easy women have when it comes to online dating after talking with a friend about her experiences with romance in the digital age. We guess he figured that most of the time it’s the men chasing and messaging women on dating sites, so women don’t have to do any of the work to start a conversation.

Because before he even finished writing his profile we’re talking before he even had his picture up , he got a message from someone. So he replied innocently to the man who emailed him and then went to sign off and check back in 24 hours.
But before he could do that, another message popped up.
Online dating is a skill: you need to learn the language , master the etiquette and know what red flags to look out for. Everyone encounters the odd hiccup on their pathway to finding true love, but the hurdles are amplified in the online sphere, where ambiguity is rife and identities are emoji-embellished constructs. Now, single women have opened the can of worms by sharing their biggest online dating grievances in a Reddit thread. Many women also complained about the fact that men they match can be inconsiderate and often don’t pay attention to specifics outlined on their profiles; some even try to manipulate their preferences in order to suit them.
